Paris Street Photography

Whenever I go out, I find myself looking for angles, contrasts and compositions that I find visually pleasing. This adds a lot to my experience of a new place and often gives me the chance to look at the world in a different way to the average tourist perspective.

Two days in Paris and a lot of walking provided this small album of street photography along with exploring the wonderful (but at times hectic city).

All photos were shot on my favourite street photography camera, the Fujifilm x100. Its retro feeling makes you feel very hands on with the photography. Its tactile feel makes everything you capture so much more personal and intimate.

Don’t get me wrong, my favourite film making camera is the Sony a7s. However, for street photography, the Fujifilm takes the #1 spot! One day, I hope to try out the Epson R-D1, with its manual wind on function, despite being a digital camera. Really helps to slow you down and take your time with the photography. I dream of the day when Fujifilm make a camera as competent as the x100, but with a manual wind on.

If you’re looking to take your own initiative street photography whilst travelling, my top tip would be to take in everything around you. Not just the sights. Obviously make sure you’re enjoying the big places like the Eiffel Tower, Louvre and galleries… but take in the other direction too. My favourite street photography photos from the trip were when I pointed the camera in the other direction and captured people in the fantastical locations.
My personal favourite being the precarious girl who is standing on the tall ledge. Just behind her is the Eiffel Tower, posing for her own photo. But the other angle seemed to be a lot more geometrically interesting to me. Take a moment and face the other way. You’ll be amazed about what else you see.
